CIVIL Panel in Gostivar: The census is statistics, not politics

Following the panel discussion in Stip, Gostivar is also on CIVIL’s map. “Census: Statistics, not politics” is the title of the panel discussion that will be held in Gostivar on March 11, 2021 (Thursday), in the premises of the Municipality of Gostivar, starting at 4.00 pm.

In compliance to the measures for protection against Covid-19, the panel discussion will be held without an audience, but will be broadcast live on CIVIL’s Facebook page, while the content resulting from the panel discussion will be published on the organization’s media platform in Macedonian, Albanian and English. Special videos will be published on CIVIL’s YouTube channel. As always, editorials with which CIVIL cooperates are invited to download all media content with an according attribution and link.

The focus of the panel discussion is on the need to separate politics from statistics, as that is what the census is – a statistical operation, and not a ground for ethno-political calculations. It is important for the public to also hear the views of the Gostivar participants in the panel discussion who, among else, will also be given space to share some basic information on the course of the preparations for the census, as well as on its meaning for the development of the municipalities, economy and for building politics and practices at the local and national level.

The panel discussion will last an hour and a half. During the discussion, CIVIL’s team will follow reactions and questions on the social networks and will pass some of them on to the participants in the discussion.

The event is part of the “Civic Lenses” project, financed by the National Endowment for Democracy.
