New project of CIVIL: The Past, Present and Future of Arms Control

CIVIL has launched the project “The Past, Present and Future of Arms Control in North Macedonia” with the financial support of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime and the Resilience Fund.

Within the framework of the project, CIVIL will be collecting and systemizing data on legislative processes and measures, operations for collection of illegal weapons, as well as amnesty processes for persons possessing illegal weapons in the period 2002-2021.

The project anticipates interviews with relevant experts and policy makers in the area of arms control, among else, also about the connection of these topics with organized crime. These are just some of the topics included with this exceptionally dynamic project of CIVIL. In the upcoming period, CIVIL will be in intensive communication with relevant institutions and experts in the field of arms control and fight against organized crime, with which it will renew and expand its activities on topics in which the organization already has rich experience behind itself, both at the national and international level.

With the project “The past, Present and Future of Arms Control in the Republic of North Macedonia”, CIVIL will also serve as a base for further research and creation of policies and practices of relevant institutions in areas such as arms control and fight against organized crime. Furthermore, the results of the project will be useful material for the media and civil society, as well as for the wider public, to acquire relevant information on these issues. The results of the project will be publically available and will serve as a tool for strengthening public awareness.
