This weekend the illegal stands have once again returned to their old places at Bit-Pazar. The daily police patrols and controls are not preventing the illegal sellers from selling, because that is their only way of earning money, writes an anonymous journalist.
“When the police come, we pack up our stuff and run off, sometimes we even leave our stuff on the stands and when the police leave, we come back to sell again. This is our only way to earn money and to bring bread home to the children. We are not stealing, we earn in an honest way”, says one seller who wishes to remain anonymous.
A while ago, the City of Skopje removed the illegal stands from the pedestrian street next to the store “26 July” at Bit-Pazar because they plan on putting benches and planting trees there.
