CIVIL is organizing a big seminar on citizen journalism on February 16 and 17 (weekend), at Hotel “Gardenia” in Veles. The number of participants is limited to 25, while interested citizens from throughout the country have the right to participate. From the beginning of the “Civic Lenses” project in 2015 and up till now, almost a thousand young people have visited the seminars and workshops for citizen journalism. Unlike most of the seminars held during the project, which were one-day events, at the municipal or regional level, this seminar is being held at the national level and will last two days.

All citizens from throughout Macedonia can apply for the seminar. All that is needed is good will, desire and enthusiasm. And of course, to register using the Application for participation. A separate commission will be verifying and approving the applications that arrive and the motivations of the participants for their participation.

The two-day seminar on citizen journalism will include topics that will help all future citizen journalists to build skills and to acquire practical knowledge from the field of journalism, objective and timely informing, as well as about the benefits of modern technologies and communication platforms.

At this seminar several new components of the project will also be presented, through which direct participation of all those interested in the implementation of the project is facilitated, as well as in the teams of the media platform or in the work of CIVIL as an organization, overall. From the experience of the organization, it is known that many members of the project teams have first been visitors of these seminars. At the same time, citizen journalists who have participated in these seminars have later also become observers at election processes, with minimal additional training before being accredited.

Additionally, the component “community media” will be presented at this seminar, which has the goal to form two teams that will be financially supported by CIVIL to start their blog or website with informative content about local events. In this way, participation in the seminar will also be a kind of a preparatory selection of the most successful ones, who will get the opportunity to start their own media project.

The team of experienced lecturers at the seminar will speak also about collaborative journalism, which in brief, represents an opportunity for cooperation of those who are interested with CIVIL MEDIA’s professional journalists.

For more information, CIVIL is inviting all those who are interested to ask a question on CIVIL’s Facebook Page or on the Facebook page of citizen journalists, and to, nevertheless, also visit the website of the “Civic Lenses” project, or to become part of the initiative #IDemandanAnswer as of now.
